Shoreline Contractors, Inc. Acquires Historic Cleveland Vessel – Putzfrau

September 15, 2022 – Press Release

Cleveland, OH – Shoreline Contractors, Inc., one of Ohio’s most notable Marine Construction and Erosion Control firms, has acquired the Putzfrau, a historic Cleveland water vessel built in 1930.

The Putzfrau, whose name translates to “Cleaning Lady” in German, gained historical significance in the Cleveland area due to the integral role she played in cleaning up the Cuyahoga River when it caught fire in 1969. The Putzfrau, then outfitted with a vacuum, crane and winch system, could pick up 100 cubic yards of debris and 15,000 gallons of oil in one working day.

The Putzfrau has been drydocked for about two decades, but will be put back to work now as a new member of Shoreline Contractors, Inc. large fleet of marine construction vessels. The Shoreline team intends to restore the Putzfrau to her original glory, and will be utilizing her as a tug/push vessel accompanying one of their barges on marine construction and erosion control projects along Lake Erie’s southern coastline.
